my time out

My boys are out of school this week & you'd think I'd have something fun planned for them. sadly, instead I had other plans. Wednesday we had granite countertops installed, Friday we had the backsplash installed & today the house is being painted- all prep to put the house on the market. so it's been quite a fun week for me as you can imagine!
My father in law picked up my boys this morning so they would be out of the house while it's being painted, which has also given me a much needed break, or maybe it's a Mommy time out. ;)
So.... How do you think I've spent 3/4 of my free time? Fabric shopping of course! a few baby quilts are in the works right now. I only did a little damage today..

I picked up a jelly roll of It's a Hoot, some yardage from the same line, a spool of sulky variegated yellow thread, some refill of my fav spray starch, a new 1/4" piecing foot and also the ugliest fat quarter I could find.
I'm excited for the DMQG June meeting as we're doing an Ugly fat quarter swap & then making that into a ugly fat quarter challenge to see who can come up with a fun way to revamp it! I'm excited! I think I did a pretty good job on picking an ugly fat quarter. I'm so sorry to who gets mine

Doll Quilt bedding

Are you ready for some hot pink?

last month I finished a full size quilt for my niece Rilee. I reused all of her crib bedding into the quilt. The green paisley was one side of her crib bumper, the green polka dot was her crib sheets, the light pink scroll was the other side of her crib bumper. We added in the zebra to make it a little more big girl for her. I added zebra into her curtain panels and also to the bottom of her crib skirt, which we extended and make into a bed skirt! Talk about being green and recycling right?

I then decided at some point I'd make her a matching doll quilt bedding set. I bought the duktig doll bed at Ikea a few weeks ago. Wednesday was a gloomy day here and expected a lot of rain. I knew my boys would take a good nap, so I figured that day was a good day to do it!

I started with assembling the bed.

Then put on 2 coats of hot pink acrylic paint.
Next, I made a fitted sheet to fit over the mattress (which was just a piece of foam) I haven't made any fitted sheets before, so I used a tutorial from Dana Made it

Then used all scraps from her full size quilt to make this sweet doll quilt!

I then made a basic pillowcase (used an extra piece of foam for the pillow)
I thought it really needed a few throw pillow, just to make sure it look right!

I LOVE how it all turned out- so sweet! I can't wait to give it to my niece when she becomes a big sister next week! I love recycling, being green- and not to mention this was a much quicker project than I expected! All completed in 1 afternoon !

And JUST as I was finishing up this blog post, I turn around from my computer and WHAT do I find???? my little stinker of a siamese cat, decided it was perfect for her! HAHA couldn't help but laugh out loud at her! I think she's telling me she wants one too!

Baby Quilts for Lexi Jane & Avery

I sent these 2 precious quilts off to Sarah on Friday for Avery & Lexi Jane (love those names!).
Lexi Jane's (purples) is more of a playmat (thicker more plush batting, with ribbon to tie it up & take on the go) and Avery's (pink, green, teal) is softer cotton batting, so it's more quilt like. I also quilted both of them with large flowers with white thread.
Hope these 2 sweet girls enjoy them!

Why computers are dangerous...

Yesterday, I bought loads of fabric. Today(tonight), I buy 2 quilting books on Amazon. I really need to step away from the computer and stop purchasing things. I also need a new credit card- preferably one with numbers I don't have memorized. O_o

Computers are dangerous friends. dangerous to your bank account. this only happens to me when I stay up late. I don't need an alarm clock to wake up in the mornings (that's what a 2 & 4 year old are for!) but I do need an alarm clock to tell me to go to bed! ha!

I have finally decided to grow my quilting library by a few (it's a sad library right now) books- I've been eyeing these 2 for some time now....now I just have to wait until next week to get them in my hot little hands! (I'm too cheap to pay for 2 day shipping sadly!)

is it Grey or Gray?

I love the color grey! It is GREY to me.... it's like a diet version of black, but so soothing. I only wish it were as flattering to wear as black! Okay enough of how much I love the color grey, or gray...

I have been contemplating for months making a quilt for our king size bed..my idea is grey tones with a LITTLE bit of yellow. We recently repainted our bedroom a very pale grey color, curtains are white, and I just bought this bedspread from Ikea:

My idea was to make a nice throw quilt for color (a whole lot less work than making a king size quilt) AND bonus- if I ever get bored of the color- I can change it.....oh I'm liking the sound of that more and more...I can change it out with the seasons! What a concept!
Okay now I'm rambling...
SO TODAY i FINALLY bit the bullet and ordered all my fabrics I've been tagging on Pintrest!

Fabrics shown are:
Ty Pennington Way in Gray
Heather Moore Cloud9 Cut out and keep Avenues

Baby bedding round 2

My sister is due at the end of next month (adding another boy to our family) and of course I offered to do the bedding as well. We had a shower for my sis on Sunday afternoon & I have to tell ya...this time around was under some serious time crunch. We got in our last batch of ordered fabric on Wednesday (5 days before the shower) Thursday & Friday my church hosted an amazing women's conference that I didn't want to miss out on, evenings were filled with client meetings, my dad came into town & our whole family walked the race for the cure on Saturday morning as well. somehow I manage to get a crib bumper & crib skirt put together in that time.

Oh and if I wasn't busy enough, my husband has been doing construction in my office/sewing room on top of it all. How I managed all that, made baby bedding in this mess & prepped for the shower (not @ my house thank the lord!) really mustve happened only by the grace of God!

Office under construction & everything pushed to the middle of the room.

Managed to wedge my sewing machine by my computer desk, set up a cutting mat on the floor & my ironing station in the kitchen. so glad it's done now :) pictures coming in another post.

Amy wanted overstuffed bumpers, so these puppies are like pillows.

Layered & ruffles Crib skirt. Love the green swirl. Can't wait until it is all put together in baby Brody's room.

One side of the bumper is chocolate minky & the other side is the paisley print.

I used chocolate brown ribbon to use as the bumper ties.

Another post soon about creating this fun bedding and finished pictures to come soon!

Central park

I've been feeling under the weather since Sunday. Went to the doctor yesterday & he said I've got an ear & sinus infection. Yeah. I've been sleeping most of the day yesterday & today. Which I am now tired of! I even tried to sew yesterday & that lasted about 2 minutes before I went back to bed.
My sad sewing machine (ps-can you believe I STILL don't have my machine back??? )the part is back ordered. over 2 months now :(

Anyway, got a nice little package in the mail today & really brightened my day! (really did since it's so gloomy !)

Some yardage of Moda's central park for a crib quilt backing & binding and also some Sunkissed (life defined) by Sweetwater for Moda in misty grey. My next big project is a king sized quilt for our bed in shades of grey, white & maybe a little black. So I'm am starting to collect grey fabrics now.

What a way to brighten my day!!!
