Addelyn's quilt

My friend Chelsea asked me to make her baby bedding earlier this summer (pictures will come once her nursery is complete!) I finished the bedding earlier this week- I made her an overstuffed bumper, a ruffled crib skirt, 3 crib sheets & this week I will make her curtains.
Her baby shower was today, so my gift for her was her baby quilt. The fabrics I used in her bedding were Robert Kaufman hot pink & white zebra, michael Miller Magnolia Lane Painters Canvas in brown, Michael Miller Dandy Damask in candy pink, And Tula Pink Parisville Topiary Sky. I appliquéd her name in a dark purple.

I had some leftover scraps from her bedding so I made 2 accent pillows.

At Chelsea's shower today I noticed her friend who made the cupcakes matched her fabrics!!! How cute is THIS!! I was probably the only that noticed because of working with her fabrics but it was so cute I almost didn't eat my cupcake.... But I figured a picture would last longer

Brody's baby bedding

I made this baby bedding back in April for my sister. She had my nephew back in May & I'm finally getting around to pictures!
Meet sweet 2 month old Baby Brody. Such a sweet baby. And a chunky monkey, but that's okay- that's how we like them!

Brody's crib bumper is an over stuffed bumper with chocolate brown minky on the inside and a paisley print on the outside (my sister actually bought a full bedding set from JCPenney's just so we could rip it up!)
The crib skirt a green swirl with a ruffle of the paisley print (with some fun trim on top) the bottom panel is brown & white polka dots. I'm not a huge fan of the overstuffed bumpers, however I love the fabrics we used- so it looks great!

Brody's quilt - of course my favorite thing to make!

Ugly Fat Quarter Swap & Challenge

Last month at our DMQG meeting we had an ugly fat quarter swap. Sadly, I forgot mine at home (and I really made sure to scour for a really ugly one) but a couple of the gals had extra fat quarters & so I did go home with 1.
I felt obligated to make my ugly fat quarter into a block - i tried to mimick the design in the fabric, however I'm afraid of triangles, so I did it with 2" squares of the yellow. eh. I don't care for it. but I did it.

This green is the fat quarter I came home with- so I pulled out my left over christmas scraps & made a curved pieced block with simple curved quilting.
and here is the back- I'm pretty happy with it- I think it'd make a great Holiday Mug Rug! :)

Route 66 Baby bedding

My friend Nicole asked me to do her baby bedding (this is baby bedding set #4 that I finished so far this year) I *think* i've finally got it all figured out! haha I've now done 4 different styles of crib bumpers this year- a quilted bumper, an overstuffed bumper, covered a bumper and now just a simple foam insert type bumper which I think might be my favorite to do. I was also excited that I used ONLY my serger for this crib bedding.

We used a simple small black and white gingham fabric for the crib skirt

a soft light blue chenille on one side of the bumper and the route 66 fabric Nicole picked out on the other side. I also made black & white gingham tabs to tie the bumper onto the crib (used a rolled hem here)
Curtain panels- again the coordinating fabrics up t0p with a fun trim for an accent. We actually used 108" broad cloth for the main part of the curtain panel. I made 2 and they measure 82" wide by 80" tall. a small trim of the gingham on the bottom seemed to finish it off just right! :)

Baby gift!

Wow! where is this summer going??? It's going too fast! Can't believe it's almost half over already! We've got our house on the market currently & too many projects going on for me at the same time! Lots of baby projects, bedding, quilts.....I love this little one I finally got to give away yesterday!
a friend from my bible study is having a baby next month & we had her baby shower yesterday. They're not finding the gender, so I had to be a little more creative with being 'gender neutral'. A while back we were given these cute 'charmlets' (as I called them) in our DMQG one night at a meeting. The fabric was Moda's 'It's a hoot' These 'charmlets' measure about 2.5" square. I have been itching to use this little pack & felt they were pretty gender neutral, so I grouped the colors together best as I could (sets of 4) and then laid out those sets diagonal from each other. I used some yardage from It's a hoot for the back and a scrappy binding from the same fabric line.
I had a few extra squares & decided to make a cute matchy burp cloth too :)

my time out

My boys are out of school this week & you'd think I'd have something fun planned for them. sadly, instead I had other plans. Wednesday we had granite countertops installed, Friday we had the backsplash installed & today the house is being painted- all prep to put the house on the market. so it's been quite a fun week for me as you can imagine!
My father in law picked up my boys this morning so they would be out of the house while it's being painted, which has also given me a much needed break, or maybe it's a Mommy time out. ;)
So.... How do you think I've spent 3/4 of my free time? Fabric shopping of course! a few baby quilts are in the works right now. I only did a little damage today..

I picked up a jelly roll of It's a Hoot, some yardage from the same line, a spool of sulky variegated yellow thread, some refill of my fav spray starch, a new 1/4" piecing foot and also the ugliest fat quarter I could find.
I'm excited for the DMQG June meeting as we're doing an Ugly fat quarter swap & then making that into a ugly fat quarter challenge to see who can come up with a fun way to revamp it! I'm excited! I think I did a pretty good job on picking an ugly fat quarter. I'm so sorry to who gets mine

Doll Quilt bedding

Are you ready for some hot pink?

last month I finished a full size quilt for my niece Rilee. I reused all of her crib bedding into the quilt. The green paisley was one side of her crib bumper, the green polka dot was her crib sheets, the light pink scroll was the other side of her crib bumper. We added in the zebra to make it a little more big girl for her. I added zebra into her curtain panels and also to the bottom of her crib skirt, which we extended and make into a bed skirt! Talk about being green and recycling right?

I then decided at some point I'd make her a matching doll quilt bedding set. I bought the duktig doll bed at Ikea a few weeks ago. Wednesday was a gloomy day here and expected a lot of rain. I knew my boys would take a good nap, so I figured that day was a good day to do it!

I started with assembling the bed.

Then put on 2 coats of hot pink acrylic paint.
Next, I made a fitted sheet to fit over the mattress (which was just a piece of foam) I haven't made any fitted sheets before, so I used a tutorial from Dana Made it

Then used all scraps from her full size quilt to make this sweet doll quilt!

I then made a basic pillowcase (used an extra piece of foam for the pillow)
I thought it really needed a few throw pillow, just to make sure it look right!

I LOVE how it all turned out- so sweet! I can't wait to give it to my niece when she becomes a big sister next week! I love recycling, being green- and not to mention this was a much quicker project than I expected! All completed in 1 afternoon !

And JUST as I was finishing up this blog post, I turn around from my computer and WHAT do I find???? my little stinker of a siamese cat, decided it was perfect for her! HAHA couldn't help but laugh out loud at her! I think she's telling me she wants one too!
